At Pennington Grove, we’re not here to recreate a hotel room in the wilderness—because let’s be real, this is a tent, and we embrace that wholeheartedly. What we do offer is an effortless and comfortable camping experience, allowing you to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature without the hassle. Whether you're here for romance, self-reflection, spiritual renewal, or adventure, our yurt provides the perfect backdrop for your journey. Unplug, unwind, and let the forest work its magic.
Our family’s tradition of hospitality dates to the early days of Gatesville when my great-grandfather watered the Gatesville square each morning to keep the dust from blowing into the stores. He charged 25c per day per store owner. He later purchased a dairy farm on what is now FM 2412 and opened the Meeks Café in the town square and a second restaurant at the intersection of S State Hwy 36 and E Main.
Pennington Grove was part of the original Meeks-Pennington homestead settled almost 100 years ago. My father and his five cousins traversed the family's 300 acres outside of Gatesville along Dodd's Creek where The Tonkawa camped in the 1800s. The terrain has rich evidence of Texas' Pangea history with fossils and seashells evidence in almost every rock. Gatesville has a rich history as one of the earliest settlements in the great state of Texas.
In addition to our glampsite, we also have a 1940s bungalow in town just a few blocks from Gatesville's historic town square.
